Karen started painting as a mental health break from her job as an inner-city elementary school principal and later as an education consultant. She only painted on a part-time basis due to the demands of her job and family life. Since retirement she enjoys learning from her peers and attending workshops. “Every workshop teaches me new techniques and allows me to grow in my watercolor skills.” Karen is excited to join the LWS Board.
Karen grew up in the Panama Canal Zone and moved to Harahan after college. Karen is widowed from Bruce Ponthieux and remains very close to her four children. She is actively involved in the lives of her six grandchildren. She lives in Ponchatoula, LA with her son and granddaughter.
