Theresa Beauboeuf Miller, LWS
Theresa Miller is a signature member of the Louisiana Watercolor Society and served on the board for several years. She is also a member of the Hammond Art Guild, and Amite Art Club, and is the Artist in Residence at Bienvenue Mon Ami Bed and Breakfast. Her work appears in numerous shows and in public and private collections.
Watercolor is her favorite medium for artwork, and she practices her art as often as she can. Most pieces are inspired by nature, but some are just things that are different or challenging to paint. “The subject matter should be something that the artist loves because I spend lots of time looking at it and thinking about it. If it is not something loved, it will be loved by the end of the painting or else the painting will not come out well.”
Theresa also likes to create work in charcoal, pastels, and oil paints. Whenever she finishes a piece of art in one medium, she typically chooses a different medium for the next painting. This next painting will usually involve subjects and colors that are different from the previous one. Each piece of art has its own unique challenges, and something is learned from each and every one.
Although Theresa has no formal art education, she continues to study the works of others, and to practice on her own, developing her skills. There is always something new to learn. As a former Computer Science Professor, her knowledge of math and logic is sometimes helpful in composition, scaling, and proportion. “Just like everything else in life, one has to practice, practice, practice to get better.”
