Iain Stewart, AWS, NWS, LWS-M

Iain Stewart was born in Scotland but raised in America. His architectural training deeply influences his work, but he strives to “embrace a dialogue between the real and imagined – seeking a way to express [his] personal feeling of being in a certain setting rather than being confined by the reality of it. “We are so good at adding detail by nature. We are rarely as adept at letting that detail go. Similarly, we are fantastic at finding the bad portions of our paintings and much less so the passages that can be quite beautiful.” Iain’s goal is to help artists see things simply and, from there, add detail.

Iain is a signature member of the American and National Watercolor Societies among other state and international entities. He was recently inducted into the esteemed Whiskey Painters of America. His work has received numerous awards in international competition and hangs in many corporate and private collections.

Iain is a highly sought-after watercolor instructor and juror who has been published in numerous books and periodicals. He has just finished production of his 5th instructional DVD.  Iain maintains a studio near Auburn University in Alabama, and in addition to gallery work, is an Architectural Illustrator with an international clientele and has taught watercolor and design drawing at Auburn where he received his degree in Architecture.
